Caventou

One of the pieces in the V&A exhibit on the London Design Festival was the Current Table, developed by designer Marjan Van Aubel company, Caventou. The table's glass surface is engineered to harvest power through dye-sensitive solar cells and create an electric current. It even works with diffuse light, which means it can produce energy indoors. Just as Caventou other project, the Current Window, it's self sustaining and can be use to charge devices, reducing household convectional electrical use.

While glass might prove a challenge when dealing with body-centric designs, the idea behind a self-sustaining apparatus that can provide energy is interesting. Not only as an alternative power source for gadgets, but also as a source for the object itself. If you don't have to worry about charging something, it might prove more friendly and less disposable.
